Twitter users gave their reaction to York v Salford abandoned with players taken off pitch and a fan arrested after alleged racist abuse…
@NelmesMalcolm: At the playoff semi final I was pretty disgusted by a certain person next to me in the South Stand (it was not racist) but it was not nice the abuse the Oldham player was getting when it was obvious city were going to get beaten. City don’t need these people
@Future110: I hope that the club are able to find the person(s) responsible and a ban for life follows. I am looking forward to taking friends and family to a family friendly club. This needs to be stamped out.
@davies62277: I think all genuine york supporters are equally appalled by this behaviour and stand with the club and Salford in condemning it in the strongest terms.
@garyrodgers49: I’m appalled to hear of this incident at the club I love. It goes against everything that York City stand for and I feel great sorrow for the player at whom the abuse was aimed. I hope he can return at some point so we can show how sorry we are. @SalfordCityFC #ycfc
@ItsBobbins: Disgusting behaviour. Absolutely the right decision and respect to all the York fans who are condemning it
@piershewitt: Note to all football fans. If you are a dinosaur who thinks our social standards are still entrenched in the 80s then there is no place for you at matches. Stay at home.
@Ann687052: I’m so sorry this happened. Please be assured this is most definitely not a normal occurrence at York and does not represent our fans.
@davies62277: Totally unacceptable behaviour by one fan and NOT representative of york city fans. I have been a fan for over 47 years and york has always been a welcoming place for black and Asian players.
@tombarneybarnes: No place for it, disgusting, hope the player affected and anyone affected are okay
@sam_elsegood: Hope your players are okay. The ‘fan’ isn’t representative of ‘us’ but he’s disgraced us today.
@cheapmansvest: I’m sorry you were subjected to this, absolutely the correct decision by your manager and I hope those affected are OK. Despicable cowardly behaviour that has no place in society or in our club. Go well for the coming season.
