Phil Brown claims his Kidderminster players are trying to get him sacked in scathing rant

Phil Brown claims his Kidderminster Harriers players are trying to get him sacked in a scathing rant after a 3-1 defeat against Spennymoor.

The 65 year old didn’t hold back, laying into his players, suggesting their performance was so lacklustre it felt like they were deliberately trying to get him the boot.

He called them out for playing with “no pride” and “no ambition,” saying they looked like they were just going through the motions. Brown even went as far as to say it seemed like something was off in the dressing room, hinting that the players might not want him around anymore.

He challenged them to own up to it if that’s the case, saying he’s wasting his time trying to motivate them if they’re set on pushing him out.

A drop in form has seen them go from 1st to 8th in the National League North with 54 points from 32 games played and just 1 point outside the playoff places.

“It was the overall understanding of the team, what was required to win again football. There’s a certain way of playing football, and there’s a certain way of wearing the shirt. The players out there wore it with no pride whatsoever, no ambition to try and win the game,” Brown said.

“They looked like they were going through the motions, and that’s a representation of me. So it’s not a case of the changes I made that did that. These players I’ve been playing for me all season, and I’ve never seen anything like that.

“It was unrecognisable. There’s something going on in the changing room. I don’t know what it is. It was almost like they didn’t want me at the football club. They played that way. That’s the only way I can describe the performance – to get me out.

“I’d love for one of them to step up here in front of the camera and just say those words. I’m wasting my time trying to motivate them if they want me out of the club, and that’s the way they represented me here.”

“They’ve made my life a misery, and consequently, because of that, I might as well make their life a misery, they’ll be in on Sunday, like naughty schoolboys that need educating,” he added.

“I’ll stay at the helm as long as the chairman wants me because it’s the chairman that employs me. But the way the players represented us was just really not good enough for themselves, not good enough not just for the football club.

“It’s almost like they were imposters. And if that’s the case, then go and do another job, something else. I try to educate them. I try to give them everything with regards to the professional side of the game, as I know nearly 2,000 games as a player, coach and a manager.

“I’ve been sacked before – but I’ve never seen such a weird, lacklustre, no direction, kind of representation of Phil Brown, and I’m really I want to apologise to everybody that came to the game.

“It’s not acceptable to play football in that manner. I’ll level this to all the players when they come in. It was embarrassing. If it goes on like this for the rest of the season, the place will be empty, I wouldn’t pay to watch that.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Phil Brown claims his Kidderminster players are trying to get him sacked in a scathing rant…

@Aimless_Pacer: Don’t think he had the right players in the right places from the start today. We looked much better when Kellerman came off and Seb went to the right. Finished the first half strongly. The penalty killed the game.

@MatthewHailes: Very raw & honest (maybe to honest) interview. Credit where due he isn’t trying to cling to a sprinking of positives in the 2nd half. However, Tuesday now appears defining, if he doesn’t get the desired reaction, a mutual handshake will probably be the conclusion.

@kiddyguest: Who signed a young kid from Derby when he is not ready for men’s football. Not Robinson’s fault to be put in an unfair situation. Take some responsibility yourself for once.

@Citizenuk1927: Legs gone. Players are ok but overtrained and overachieved. It’s clear they can hardly run anymore. Peak reached on Boxing Day. Need a new squad for next season of younger players.

@stubby9871: Agree to a certain extent, basics were missing. Until AMS came on, they didn’t seem to have a target up front. Missing Foukes hopefully back in a couple of weeks.

@joshcowley1998: Is that a honest Phill brown or is that something he’s chosen to say, personally the players are lossing full confidence and is it are they not playing for the badge or is it phill brown destroying the players mentality that’s the question that’s needs to be asked

@TravisKHFC: Brilliant interview, few home truths told and shows how much it means to him, that should show anyone asking him to be sacked what we’d be letting go

@brummyhun: From minute -3 things went wrong. The officiating team should have been in green. Min 1 pointless foul by young Robinson up against experienced Taylor. Defendable situation if your keeper commands 6 yard box. So many touches to control the ball that is not skill it’s concentration

@JonathanFord72: If they don’t want to be at the football club then there’s only only man to sort it … No acknowledgment of the paying supporters at 90 minutes and shuffling off at 5:15 and ignoring supporters is not acceptable either Phil Brown it’s down right disgusting !!!!!!!

@ColinJJordan: It’s not acceptable to set up like that. No game plan, then blamed players in the week. Looks like he wants a pay out and be done. If he can’t manage at this level, it’s time to retire. Collect that pension and enjoy the horses at Cheltenham

@LizJRudd: How unprofessional.

@mattskhfc: Sounds like he’s lost the dressing room. Pinning all hopes on a 36 year old up front with no suitable Replacement / competition sums up his naivety

@mattyrowe__: Weird, I thought they won the league in December.

@KaiFletcher44: Great interview 🥴🥴

@brownbill846232: Great interview, a manager that isn’t afraid to say the truth.

@mattybraps0574: Blooming funny as a bulls fan listening to it post match earlier 🤣 he’s completely lost the plot him saying the players want him sacked made my weekend haha
