Kevin Pringle to Step Down as basketballscotland CEO After 19 and a Half Years
After 19 and a half years of dedicated service, basketballscotland announces the resignation of our Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Pringle. Kevin’s decision to step down marks the end of an extraordinary chapter for both our organisation and the wider basketball community in Scotland.
Throughout his tenure, Kevin has been the quiet driving force behind basketballscotland’s success—a leader who empowers others and consistently prioritises the community. His commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment has made him not just a CEO, but a teammate to everyone in the organisation.
Under Kevin’s leadership, basketballscotland has experienced significant growth and development. The organisation’s core staff has expanded from five to 20 members, while turnover has increased from around £450,000 to over £1 million. The basketballscotland membership has more than tripled, growing from around 1,800 to over 5,600, reflecting a thriving basketball community.
However, Kevin’s impact extends far beyond numbers. Those he has led have gone on to take up roles within the NBA, UK Sport, Commonwealth Games Organising Committees, and other positions as far as Canada and Australia. His emphasis on people development has not only strengthened basketballscotland but has also propelled individuals into international arenas.
On the international stage, Kevin’s tenure saw Scotland achieve remarkable milestones. Three Scottish basketball players have competed in the Olympics and Paralympic, and Scottish teams have finished 4th in two consecutive Commonwealth Games.
As Kevin steps down, he leaves the Sport in a strong position in Scotland. The organisation is in a sound financial position and retains positive relationships with key partners such as sportscotland and CashBack for Communities and Caledonia Gladiators, who provide a lasting legacy of basketballscotland’s focus on providing opportunities for female athletes through Caledonia Pride.
With the 3×3 included in the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and with British Basketball having secured long-term funding for Great Britain’s 3×3 basketball programme, there are exciting opportunities ahead for the sport to build upon.
Stephen Ferguson, Chair of basketballscotland, said: “Kevin has been an extraordinary servant of basketball in Scotland for 19 years. Under his leadership the sport has enjoyed a period of continuous growth, both in membership and club numbers, on-court success and financial growth. Kevin is definitely a hard act to follow. As Chair, Kevin and I have enjoyed a fruitful partnership, and he has always had the full confidence of our Board. We are sad to see him go but understand that sometimes you just feel it’s the right time to develop your career in new directions. Kevin will remain firmly part of the basketball community, and we’re delighted that he won’t be a stranger to our sport. On behalf of the entire basketball community, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes for the future.”
While Kevin is stepping down as CEO, he will continue to work with basketballscotland in a reduced capacity over the next couple of months to support the incoming CEO, ensuring a seamless transition and maintaining stability across the organisation during this period.
The basketballscotland board is committed to taking the necessary time to ensure we find the right replacement for this pivotal role. With the priority being identifying a leader who can build on the strong foundations Kevin has laid and guide basketballscotland into its next chapter.
On behalf of the entire basketballscotland family, we extend our deepest gratitude to Kevin for his outstanding leadership, unwavering support, and lasting impact. We wish him every success as he embarks on the next chapter of his journey.
