The first trailer drops for the Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues Amazon Documentary, and it’s going to be quite the watch.
A new five-part documentary series via Prime Video will premiere on the 1st of August in over 200 countries.
The series looks at the club’s transformative journey under new ownership, capturing the ambition to rebuild Birmingham City into a “world-class team” after enduring relegation, multiple managerial changes, and a record-breaking season that secured automatic promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.
The documentary provides an in-depth look at the club’s efforts to foster a winning culture, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of players, coaching staff, and key ownership figures.
Additionally, it goes into Birmingham City’s cultural heritage and the loyalty of its fanbase, highlighting the club’s role in revitalising the area.
They’ve had a rich but often challenging history, marked by periods of success, including a League Cup victory in 2011, and prolonged struggles with relegation and financial instability.
But by the early 2020s, the Blues had been languishing in the lower tiers of English football, particularly in League One and the Championship, with little success or silverware to show.
The fanbase, known for its unwavering loyalty, has endured years of disappointment, facing inconsistent performances and managerial turnover.
In 2023, the club underwent a significant change when American investment group Knighthead Capital Management, backed by the NFL legend Tom Brady, acquired a minority stake in the club, making a turning point, bringing fresh ambition and resources to a club desperate for revival.
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, gave the club global attention, with the aim to leverage his experience in elite sports to transform the club’s fortunes.
We see the highs and lows of their journey under new ownership. Just have a watch of the trailer for the new documentary below…
The club said in a statement on their website: “Prime Video today released the official trailer for the exhilarating UK Original documentary series Built In Birmingham: Brady & the Blues, which will launch exclusively on Prime Video in over 200 countries worldwide on Friday 1 August, with all five episodes available immediately.
“The five-part docuseries tells the authentic tale of a club accustomed to sporting heartbreak who are being rebuilt to win, with American football legend Tom Brady laying out their new mission statement: “We’re trying to make Birmingham City a world-class team.” Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues follows that journey, as a new ownership group suffer relegation and multiple managerial changes en route to a record-breaking season which delivered automatic promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.
“Embedded camera crews have followed the First-Team players, coaching staff and key ownership figures as the club fights to instil a winning culture and climb the English football pyramid. Beyond the day-to-day football operations, Built in Birmingham will also explore the unique cultural heritage of Birmingham City and a supporter base who have remained loyal despite a sustained period without success or silverware. The documentary will shine a spotlight on this community’s resurgence, illustrating how the football club plans to transform a city.”
