Everton were left in disbelief as their 93rd minute penalty gets overturned in a 2-2 draw with Man Utd on Saturday afternoon.
In the 20th minute, Everton took the lead, a corner which United couldn’t quite clear. The ball dropped for Beto who poked the ball past Andre Onana.
Then 10 minutes later, a brilliant pass set Beto clear down the right and with only Harry Maguire against three. Beto teed up Jack Harrison, the shot was beaten up into the air by Andre Onana, and then Abdoulaye Doucoure outjumps Maguire for an easy finish.
Everton fans were loving it, taunting Manchester United with “going down” chants as can be heard below…

United improved second half, and got one back on 72 minutes. It came from a free-kick, about 20 yards out, as Bruno Fernandes took advantage of Jordan Pickford side-stepping and the set-piece into the far corner on Pickford’s side.
Man Utd equalised on 80 minutes, a wide free-kick was headed clear by Beto but fell really nicely for Manuel Ugarte on the edge of the box who sent it into the bottom corner.
Then on 93 minutes, Andre Onana made a save, Ashley Young went down in the box under pressure from both Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt as he tried to run on to the rebound.
Ally McCoist (on TNT Sports): “Oh my goodness. The drama. Could Andre Onana push it away? That’s a penalty. Wow. You know something, I can see why he’s not given it, but I would have given it. I think there’s enough of a tug on him [Ashley Young].”
Andy Madley was sent to the screen with it showing contact from both Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt on Ashley Young but it wasn’t enough to bring him down said the referee.
There were boos are full time, it ended on a sour note.
The Premier League Match Centre tweeted: “VAR checked the referee’s call of penalty to Everton for a challenge by Maguire on Young and deemed that no foul had been committed and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted with a drop ball.”

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim speaking to TNT Sports on the decision to overturn a penalty for Everton in stoppage time after it was initially given on the field: “I think it was a soft touch from what I saw. I think it was a soft penalty, it was clear.”
On his side’s performance: “We need to win three points and we need to win the whole game. The worst part is that we are losing the ball without pressure and we are not doing what we need to do. We were soft.”
On fixing the problems in his side: “In training, we have to continue to do the same. In the second half, we changed nothing. We have to do the same thing but in a good way. We have to improve on creating chances and in this game also we struggle with scoring goals.”
On what he can do to make his side more consistent: “I don’t know, if I know, I will change it. Everything we do in the week, we have to do better in the game. In this moment, we need to focus on day by day. We need to survive this season and then we can think ahead. I don’t want to just say the negative part. In the second half, we were close to win this game.”
Everton boss David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “We should have probably gone 3-0 up which would have made it harder for Manchester United to come back. We should have done better but the momentum went in Manchester United’s favour at that time.”
On the late penalty decision being overturned: “There is definitely a shirt pull on Ashley Young. I was surprised it went to VAR. The referee made his decision. From our point of view, it went against us but I’m really pleased with the players.”
On Idrissa Gueye’s performance: “He’s been doing great, he’s played really, really well and he is keeping it going. He does a great job for the team.”
On Everton’s good run of form: “Us picking up points, a few games ago, we were in a relegation battle. We are still in it somehow but we have to make sure we get out of it. Today was a difficult game.”
