Craig Nicol Heads to India to Coach the Delhi Dribblers!
Craig Nicol, one of Scotland’s most accomplished basketball coaches, is set to embark on an exciting new chapter as he joins the Delhi Dribblers in India as an Assistant Coach in the Indian National Basketball League (INBL) Pro. This exciting opportunity will allow Craig to bring his wealth of experience to one of the world’s fastest-growing basketball markets.
The Delhi Dribblers’ are one of six franchises featuring in the INBL Pro’s inguinal season, which is set to take place over six weeks. This condensed format provides a platform for local and international talent to shine while aiming to ignite a passion for basketball across India.
With over a decade of experience coaching at the European Championships for Scotland and Great Britain, Craig has a respectful reputation in basketball. His coaching history includes serving as an Assistant Coach at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where he helped Scotland achieve a 4th place finish. Over 12 years overseeing academy and development programmes at City of Edinburgh, Craig has demonstrated a commitment to nurturing talent and building champions, earning recognition across Scottish basketball.
Craig’s involvement in this project stems from his connection with Rob Beveridge, the Head Coach at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, who introduced him to David Petroziello. After collaborating on some coaching clinic work, Craig and David remained in contact until David, who would be serving as the head coach, invited Craig to join the team.
As Craig prepares to leave for India, he carries with him the support of his players, colleagues, and the Scottish basketball community. His journey is a testament to the power of international collaboration and the opportunities that arise from forging meaningful connections in the world of sport. Craig will return to the SBC courts later this season as the City of Edinburgh Kings aim to secure a place in the 2025 Playoffs.
