Away day to remember for Nottingham Forest in first win at Man Utd’s Old Trafford in three decades

It was an away day to remember for Nottingham Forest in what was their first win at Man Utd’s Old Trafford in three decades.

Goals from Nikola Milenkovic, Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood sends Forest up to fifth in the Premier League table with a 3-2 win over Manchester United as Ruben Amorim loses at Old Trafford for the first time since becoming the new boss.

It’s a huge win for Forest as they follow up a win at Anfield earlier this season with a win at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, it is back to back losses for Ruben Amorim.

Chris Wood on Forest scoring from a corner: “Everybody know the emphasis on set-pieces these days, it’s huge, a big avenue for and against. We did well today.”

On his goal: “Morgs [Gibbs-White] has put in a fantastic delivery, he’s got quality the boy, it’s just about finding areas to cause confusion.”

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim speaking to Sky Sports:

On substitutions: “Bruno [Fernandes] was too tired and I wanted [Mason] Mount to play that position of second midfielder who opens a bit on the left.

“Josh [Zirkzee] plays with Rasmus [Hojllund] to have combinations, [Leny] Yoro goes off because we can’t give him too many minutes.

“We put Harry Maguire on because of set-pieces, to control more who was winning all the first balls, the only way to attack Nottingham was transitions, to try and win first and second balls. When Harry was on the pitch he won all the first balls.

On a tough start to life at United:

“It’s not a surprise becaues we come in the middle of a lot of games.

“It’s really dissapointing for the fans, after so many times with dissapointment, but we are here to do a job and will continue doing the same things to imrpove the team.”

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim told BBC Sport: “Tough game. We started really bad, the first play we suffered a goal and then it’s hard to try to fight. We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations.

“We improved the movement in the last third. We managed to draw the game and then at half-time we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals. Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality.

“We didn’t have many situations to score.

“Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job.

“This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects.

“We have to win games to help us improve the team.

“We are in the start of something so big that we pay attention to every detail. We already know it’s a big job so we have to continue.”

Here’s how fans reacted with it an away day to remember for Nottingham Forest in a first win at Man Utd’s Old Trafford in three decades…

@henjohansen1: We are back after some poor games! Winning at Anfield and OT in the same season, that’s amazing! What a great 2nd half and hard hard work from all the boys, we deserved it! 💪🏻⚽🔴⚪❤

@ReissNFFC: These are the nights what being at this level are all about. At times at this level, it’s gonna be frustrating but you just have to ride the wave & enjoy it. 5th in the PL atm after 15 games, relegation fears are over. Game at a time, just keep on dreaming 🇪🇺. #NFFC 🩵

@Jim_M_Hunter: Sorry, what!? I’m starting to think those pundits who said we were favourites to get relegated might have been a bit wrong.

@liamevansnffc: What a win, and what a season we are having defo a game off to halfs tonight but cant win them all with slick football we are only Nottingham Forest after-all …..On the piss with Nuno 🍺 🍻 #NFFC

@sjdtwit: Get in… we all would have taken a point or 2 from Manchester this week but 3 absolutely great…after the doom of Wednesday we are now back on track for Europe 😉🔴🌳🔴

@OshJones25: What a fucking buzz that was. Nuno’s teams on the counter are a joy to behold. And Woody’s goal was just a masterful finish. European dream back on! #NFFC

@ahosey31: Massive win. The progress we’re making and the change in mindset from previous seasons is amazing to see. Feels like the foundations of a proper team are being put in place #nffc

@tomvvardle: Not much better than beating that lot when you had to put up with all those Home Counties glory supporters at school in the 2000s 🤫 #NFFC

@opalmantra1976:
30yrs in the making
I fucking ❤ this team
Up the European Nuno reds #nffc

@AJT_1980:
First win at Anfield in 55 years.

#NFFC

@ManekiBlades: Nottingham Forest showing what hard work, determination and spending over £350m on players in the last 3 seasons, can do for a team. 👏🏼 #NFFC #SUFC

@NFFC_EPL: I’m not exaggerating when I say this. Has there EVER been a bigger upgrade in world football than Matz Sels for Matt Turner? 😂😂 Genuinely there can’t have been #NFFC

@Moomin1314: Know it’s sad, but I’m actually quite teary and emotional at that #nffc result. Helps that I massively dislike Man U. We’ve been crap for half my life. I’ve waited so, so long for games, for results like this. What a time to be alive.

@DeamPeter: I love my team! What a game, what a performance. No fear, the mighty Reds up the league we go! #COYR #NFFC
